Theresa May's extraordinary Facebook meltdown

Theresa May has posted an extraordinary rant on Facebook. Most of the top-rated comments are highly critical, but this spectacular Facebook meltdown needs breaking down point by point so that it can be exposed as the tide of absolute drivel that it is.

So here we go ...

"If I lose just six seats I will lose this election, and Jeremy Corbyn will be sitting down to negotiate with the presidents, prime ministers and chancellors of Europe."
Let's hope this happens because you've clearly lost the plot completely. You're claiming that the constituency seats belong to you personally, not to the MPs that won them!
People's choices of words tell a lot about them, and your choice of words here is very telling indeed. You're coming across as an increasingly out-of-touch narcissist who thinks everything is about you.
You're sounding more and more like Donald Trump with every passing day.
"For anyone with any doubts about the importance of this election, the events of the past week should have put them to rest. With the publication of the Labour Party’s manifesto on Tuesday, and the launch of my own plan on Thursday, it is clearer than ever just how much is at stake."
Labour's manifesto is carefully costed. Your Tory manifesto is a ridiculous shambles that announces over 50 totally uncosted policies. Your farcical manifesto is clearly aimed at political sleepwalkers who actually want a government that just makes things up as they go along with no attempt whatever to explain how they're going to pay for things.
"Labour's plan – with its fantastical promises and utopian vision – would drag this country back to the past. It would undo all the progress we have made, return us to the days when the trade unions held sway, and put our economic security at risk."
Dragging the country back to the past is quite an accusation from a woman who wants to bring back fox hunting and grammar schools, and was a top minister in a government that oversaw the lowest levels of house building since the 1920s and the slowest post-crisis recovery since the 1720s!
"It is a despairing document from a divisive party, written and shaped by a leader who doesn’t understand – or like – our country."
You Tories divided the nation over Brexit (turning an internal Tory party squabble into a national crisis), and have spent the last seven years massively increasing the gulf between the super-rich minority and the rest of us, and you have the brass neck to call anybody else "divisive"
As for not liking "our country" remind us which political party wants to bring our vital national infrastructure back under British control, and which wants our stuff to stay under the control of foreign states like China, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates?
"Jeremy Corbyn has spent decades apologising for Britain. He accuses me of wanting to wrap myself in the Union Flag, as if that were a term of abuse. It’s little wonder that even traditional Labour voters look at what he believes in and are appalled."
Wrapping yourself in the flag is a term of abuse if you're doing it in order to deflect public attention away from the fact that you and your party have carved up and distributed our national assets to all kinds of foreign interests.
Thanks to your party's privatisation mania our railways are 74% operated by foreign governments; Communist China has stakes in our National Grid, rail franchises, and water companies; the Islamist tyrants in Qatar have chunks of our vital national infrastructure too; the UK's nuclear expertise is now owned by the French government; even your beloved Trident nuclear missiles are operated by a consortium that is 66% owned by American companies aren't they?
You call yourself a patriot but you and your party are traitors. If any politician had talked about handing our railways, water companies and power stations to the Chinese in the 1950s they would have been lynched. Nowadays you Tories get away with it because your chums in the media don't bother to tell the public what's actually going on
"He has disowned and rejected the core values of Labour’s most loyal supporters to put his own extreme ideological obsessions first."
This is completely backwards and you know it. Jeremy Corbyn's principles are a return to Labour's core values. The rejection of Labour's core values happened under Tory Blair.
Don't you even remember Margaret Thatcher calling the rise of Tony Blair her greatest achievement in politics?
There's also nothing extreme about renationalisation. In fact the majority of Brits strongly support it, and even the majority of Tories support the idea that the NHS, police and schools should be run in the public sector don't they?
So if anyone is an ideological extremist it's clearly you for your agenda of privatising thousands of schools, police services (like the disastrous privatisation of the forensic science service) and the NHS (now over 100 private companies cashing in on the NHS) isn't it?
"The prospect of him walking through the door of Number 10, flanked by John McDonnell and Diane Abbott and propped up by the Liberal Democrat and nationalist parties, should scare us all."
Ah yes because a Tory leader flanked by an economically illiterate fool (George Osborne) and a terrifying assortment of shockingly incompetent ideological zealots (Iain Duncan Smith, Michael Gove, Chris Grayling, you) would never ever sneak into Downing Street with the help of the Liberal Democrats would they?
"And make no mistake, it could happen. The cold hard fact is that if I lose just six seats I will lose this election, and Jeremy Corbyn will be sitting down to negotiate with the presidents, prime ministers and chancellors of Europe."
"Your" seats again. You're repeating yourself and you sound like a mad dictator.
As for negotiations: I think a calm level-headed approach is best. I'm struggling to think of a worse approach to complex diplomatic negotiations than issuing an ever-escalating series of threats and blabbering paranoid conspiracy theories when you get rattled by a German newspaper story. There's no way that Corbyn could do worse.
"Yet with his manifesto this week, he has demonstrated that he is simply not up to the job of leading Britain through the critical years ahead. Manifestos are a test of leadership. They force leaders to choose their priorities, reckon with great challenges and face up to difficult decisions."
If manifestos are a test of leadership the absolute shambles your lot put together is clearly a damning indictment isn't it?
As for priorities ... you're giving £70 billion in tax breaks to corporations, and to pay for it you're planning to asset strip elderly people for the "crime" of suffering age related diseases.
We can see your priorities and they're nasty as fuck.
"Jeremy Corbyn has failed that test. His shambolic prospectus ducks all the difficult decisions we face as a country, threatening to bring chaos to Britain and selling future generations short."
Your manifesto is a total Swiss cheese of unfunded policies and spending pledges and you have the absolute cheek to criticise Labour's carefully costed manifesto.
As for "selling future generations short", which leader is promising to snatch food out of infant school children's mouths? Which party has already condemned an extra 400,000 children to growing up in poverty? That would be you and your Tory party wouldn't it?
"I believe in being upfront and straight with people."
We'll come back to this later ...
"We face some great challenges as a nation."
Yes, like trying to undo some of the social and economic devastation caused by your party's ruinous obsession with austerity, and rebuilding our NHS, police and emergency services after seven years of ideologically driven cuts.
"How to make sure our economy stays strong; how we ensure Britain emerges from Brexit stronger, more united and more confident than ever before; how we overcome social divisions, spread opportunity and make Britain the world’s Great Meritocracy; how to restore the contract between generations, providing security for older people while being fair to the young; and how we seize the opportunities on offer in a digital world."
So much backwards drivel in one sentence: The economy isn't strong. You can't claim that the economy is so weak you have to make "tough decisions" in one paragraph and then brag about the economy being so strong a few lines later. Only a fuckwit with the attention span of a gnat could fall for such blatant chicanery.
How dare you use the word "meritocracy" when your party has been erecting one barrier after another to prevent social mobility?
How dare you talk about providing security to older people when you're openly planning to asset strip them if they succumb to age related diseases?
How dare you talk about being fair to the young when you're rigging society against them by cutting education funds, denying them social security and lumbering young graduates with such enormous debts that 70% of them will never be able to pay them off despite paying a 9% aspiration tax for their entire working lives?
"We cannot wish these challenges away. But with a government that steps up, shows leadership and takes the big, sometimes difficult decisions that are right for Britain in the long-term, we can see them as opportunities instead."
Back to the "big" "difficult decision" stuff again eh?
You've switched from saying how terrible things are to justify your ideologically driven cuts, to bragging about how strong the economy is, back to difficult decision doom-mongering again.
That's two U-turns in a single bloody Facebook post. What the absolute fuck are you playing at?
"The Government I lead will be that active government. A mainstream government that delivers for mainstream Britain. We will leave the European Union and the single market, and take control of our borders, our money and our laws – because we respect the will of the British people and recognise that, however they voted, people just want us to get on with the job of delivering Brexit."
"Get on with the job of delivering Brexit"! Are you having a laugh or what? You spent nine tedious months dithering and spouting meaningless crap like "Brexit means Brexit" before you eventually triggered Article 50, then you immediately called your self-serving snap election instead of getting on with the job of delivering Brexit!
You set the clock ticking on the most complex and risky set of diplomatic negotiations this country has ever faced and then immediately called a bloody election instead of concentrating on the task at hand!
You're a dithering idiot who is clearly far more concerned with your own political self-interest than in delivering Brexit, or the good of the nation.
"We will bring net migration down to sustainable levels to tens of thousands rather than hundreds of thousands – because when immigration is too fast and too high, it is difficult to build a cohesive society."
You made this exact same promise in 2010 then proceeded to oversee the biggest immigration surge in UK history didn't you?
Tell me who was the Home Secretary who oversaw the highest level of net migration ever. It was you Theresa wasn't it?
Then you recycled this broken pledge in 2015, and now you're recylcing it for a third time.
You know this tough-talking anti-immigrant rhetoric plays well with the fact-averse Ukippers, and you're just hoping they're thick enough to actually vote for the woman who oversaw the highest rates of immigration in history just because they see her spewing empty anti-immigrant rhetoric and recycling the exact same broken anti-immigrant promises as the last time (and the time before).
"We will ensure taxes are low and money is targeted on the right priorities – because Conservatives know it is taxpayers’ money and we have a duty to spend it well."
You scrapped the 2015 Tory manifesto pledge to not raise Income Tax, and you scrapped the 2015 Tory manifesto pledge to not raise National Insurance.
Why did you do that if you're not intending to raise taxes?
"And we will invest in the future to ensure each generation is able to do better than the last."
For the last seven years your party has been asset stripping Britain and overseeing the worst collapse in workers' wages since records began ensuring the current generation is worse off than the last one was.
You've only been investing 1.7% of GDP in infrastructure and innovation. The OECD average is 3.0%. The truth is that you're stealing the money that should be being invested for the future in order to hand it out in tax breaks to corporations and the super-rich.
"We will fund the new schools – including a new wave of selective schools – that will give young people the best start in life."
Bringing back grammar schools so the kids who are tutored for the test get a decent education, and the rest are herded into over-crowded and under-funded secondary moderns is a sick policy that will ensure the best start in life to a select minority, and an altogether crappier start in life to the rest.
"We will invest in a new generation of technical institutions to give them the skills they need to succeed."
You've spent the last seven years defunding and closing technical colleges and adult education services. Now you're suddenly all in favour of skills-training?
Either what you've been doing for the last seven years was totally wrong, or what you say you're going to do now is wrong. Which is it?
"We will build the homes required to help them get on the housing ladder."
Since 2010 you lot have overseen the lowest level of house building since the early 1920s. As a result of your policies house prices are at their most unaffordable level in history.
Your wage repression policies and your lack of house building have rendered home ownership an impossible dream for millions.
How dare you talk about helping people get on the housing ladder?
"And we will continue to pay down our nation’s debts, because it is wrong to pass to future generations a bill you cannot or will not pay yourself."
Here's where we come back to your previous boasting about being a straight talker.
You know perfectly well that since 2010 you lot have created more new public debt than every single Labour government in history combined. You know the debt is still increasing. You know that your own manifesto admits that you won't stop increasing the debt until at least the middle of the next decade. You know in 2013 David Cameron was chastised by the UK Statistics Authority for lying that you lot have been "paying down" the national debt when you're still increasing it.
You know that you're lying.
"The next five years will be critical for Britain. Our future prosperity, our place in the world, our economic security and the opportunities we want for our children – and our children’s children – all depend on getting the best Brexit deal for Britain."
You're the one who has been issuing ever escalating threats that you'll do a catastrophic "no-deal" strop away from the negotiation table if you don't get your own way.
If anyone is a threat to Britain getting a good Brexit deal, it's clearly you.
"That will require leadership from a prime minister who is strong enough to stand up for Britain, and a government that is stable enough to steer the country safely through the negotiations ahead."
Your beloved "Strong and stable" trope again. Even children can see through this meaningless propaganda bullshit.
"With his manifesto this week, Jeremy Corbyn has shown he is simply not up to that task."
With your completely uncosted shambles of a manifesto you've shown that you are not up to the task.
"For that reason, and because of the chaos his plans would unleash on this country, I will redouble my efforts in the weeks to come to earn every vote. That will strengthen my hand when I negotiate in Europe and help me build a stronger, fairer, more prosperous Britain."
More meaningless propaganda.
What's not chaotic about a country that is led by a political party that gave the public a referendum on Brexit without even bothering to draw up a contingency plan for what to do if they managed to lose it?
What's strong about a country led by a woman who blabbers paranoid conspiracy theories when she gets rattled by a story in a German newspaper?
What's fair about asset stripping pensioners with dementia and other age related diseases?
What's prosperous about a country where the workers' share of the wealth is shrinking because all the wealth is being siphoned off by the super-rich minority?
"A country our children and grandchildren are proud to call home."
If you get back into power the UK will become an even more shameful place.
More of our children and grandchildren will grow up in poverty and attend shitty under-funded schools.
More of our children and grandchildren will be priced out of attending university and priced out of ever owning their own homes.
More of our children and grandchildren will grow up to find themselves exploited on Zero Hours Contracts and dependent on food banks to survive.
More of our children and grandchildren will grow up where politicians spewing intolerant and divisive extreme-right anti-migrant rhetoric are the norm, not the exception.
More of our children and grandchildren will grow up in a country where their grandparents houses are treated as low-hanging fruit to be harvested by the government in order to pay for £70 billion in tax cuts for their corporate mates.
Conclusion

Theresa May's Facebook extraordinary Facebook rant is a clear demonstration that she's completely unfit to govern.
  • She pulls off an incredible double U-turn on the state of the economy in a single Facebook post.
  • She claims to be straight talking, then she openly lies a few lines later.
  • Her criticisms of the Labour manifesto are clearly more applicable to her own farcical uncosted manifesto.
  • She talks of noble themes like "fairness" and "meritocracy" even though her actions to date have been to attack the poorest in society and erect barriers to social mobility, and her disgusting manifesto pledges to asset strip pensioners and steal the food out of the mouths of infants.
  • She dares to criticise Jeremy Corbyn over a supposed lack of patriotism when she wants British infrastructure and services to remain the property of communist China.
Theresa May's Facebook meltdown just goes to show how out-of-touch she's becoming.

When our personal friends post long garbled reality-denying screeds onto Facebook, we take pity on them. Maybe send them a private message to check that they're OK, we certainly don't offer them a box of sharp knives to play with.

Why should it be any different with our political leaders? Why will people refuse to see Theresa May's Facebook meltdown as the clear indicator of extreme instability that it is?

How anyone could ever even consider voting to further-empower such a dishonest, directionless and increasingly erratic charlatan is absolutely beyond me.
