Bible-bashing Tim thinks it's acceptable to accuse others of what you're guilty of yourself

The May Bank Holiday Weekend hasn't just witnessed the finale of World Snooker Championships, it's also seen a concerted effort by the neoliberal establishment class to gaslight the nation with barrages of absolute nonsense.

First we had the mainstream media campaign to paint Labour's net loss of 84 council seats in the local elections (almost margin of error stuff when they were defending over 2,200) as if it were equally as bad as the Tories losing 1,330 council seats in by far their worst local election performance since 1995.

You're selling your car for £1,330 are you? Well I'll give you £84 pounds for it and you'll be happy because the guy from the BBC told us that the two numbers are identical!

Then we had Esther McVey's absurd Daily Express article claiming that the Tory party is the natural home of the working classes!

The billionaire bankrolled party that brought us a decade of austerity and wage repression, in-work social security cuts for the working poor, an explosion of exploitative, insecure, low-pay Zero Hours type jobs, unlawful Tribunal Fees designed to protect bad bosses from being taken to work by their abused workers, and a massive rise in the number of children growing up in dire poverty despite living in working households ... all while they lavished handouts and tax-giveaways on bankers, corporations, and the mega-rich!

Well they certainly sound like the natural party of the working class don't they?

And now we've got the former Lib-Dem leader and celebrity homophobe Tim Farron accusing Jeremy Corbyn of being an austerity enabler!

Farron wilfully participated in the ruinous 2010-2015 austerity government that trashed our wages and living standards, gutted community cohesion, vandalised the social safety net, deliberately under-funded our public services, and implemented devastating hard-right austerity fanaticism in almost every aspect of British life.

The Tory austerity fanaticism that Tim and his Lib-Dem mates enabled caused a significant collapse in living standards which resulted in the massive tide of public anger that drove Brexit marginally over the winning line in the 2016 EU referendum.

But instead of own his mistake and admit his culpability in this disaster, like any decent Christian should, he's actually trying to apportion blame for his own crimes onto one of the tiny minority of MPs who refused to ever jump aboard the Tory austerity bandwagon that he spent five years upon.

The reason that Corbyn won the Labour leadership in 2015, and again in 2016, was that he was the only candidate who had clean hands and a demonstrable voting record of opposing hard-right Tory fanaticism.

To see Tim Farron publicly accusing Corbyn of being an austerity-enabler just goes to prove that there's no depths to which these right-wing neoliberal austerity fanatics won't plumb in order to sow confusion and disorder.

Furthermore he accused Corbyn of enabling Tory Brexit, when he's the guy who missed a crucial knife-edge Brexit vote in order to swan off to Sherborne in Dorset to give a speech about how much he hates the idea of gay equality!

Farron, McVey, and the majority of the orthodox neoliberal Wesminster bubble aren't talking this absolute rubbish because they believe it, they know it's nonsense, they know most of us know that it's nonsense.

They just want to drive us to despair, to make us so sick and tired of the idiocy that we stop paying attention and thinking about politics because it's so relentlessly infuriating, because they know that if the debate is ever allowed to settle on policies, ideas, and good faith analysis, then most voters would end up turning away from the Tories and Lib-Dems to support anti-austerity anti-privatisation parties like Labour, the Greens, Plaid Cymru, and (to a lesser extent) the SNP.

So that's why they pollute the political discourse with such inanity and dishonesty, that's why they deliberately reverse reality, that's why they continually erode the actual meanings of words, that's why they accuse others of their own crimes against the economy, and that's why they constantly talk such infuriating fact-averse, reality-reversing nonsense.

They just want to make us so sick and tired of the whole political charade that we don't bother to think about who we vote for, or don't bother voting at all.

We know where Jeremy Corbyn was last night (opposing the Tory Brextremists), but where was Tim Farron?

Last night Theresa May survived two incredibly close votes on Brexit legislation after whipping her MPs to support hard-right Brextremist amendments to the customs bill that have clearly been designed to make her Brexit White Paper unworkable.

There were 14 and 11 Tory rebels who voted against Theresa May and her Brextremist puppet masters in the two votes, but the vast majority of Tories (and their bigoted sectarian DUP backers) actually voted in favour of the Brextremist amendments.

Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party voted against Theresa May and the Brextremists, but they were let down by four of the usual suspects who actually voted alongside Jacob Rees-Mogg and his ilk, despite knowing that a defeat at this stage could have triggered the final collapse of this shockingly weak and incompetent Tory government.

The four Brextremist collaborators were Kelvin Hopkins, Graham Stringer, Frank Field, and Kate Hoey.

Nobody should be surprised that these four stepped in to save Theresa May's bacon. They've consistently sided with Theresa May and the hard-right Brextremists when the Labour leadership and the other opposition parties have voted to oppose them.

A much more shocking revelation is that the current Lib-Dem leader Vince Cable, and the former Lib-Dem leader Tim Farron didn't even bother to turn up to vote in the debate.

This is utterly extraordinary stuff from the most high profile politicians in a party that has relentlessly positioned itself as the "Stop Brexit" party since 2016.

Less than a month ago these two charlatans were smugly chanting "where's Jeremy Corbyn" at the pro-EU People's Vote protest event in London. But when it came to the crunch, and enough Tory rebels finally decided to stand up against the hard-right Brextremists who have usurped their party, Jeremy Corbyn showed up to vote against them, while these two posturing frauds were nowhere to be seen.

In fact, the extraordinary reason Tim Farron decided to not bother showing up to such a crucial parliamentary Brexit battle was that he was too busy banging on about how much he hates gay sex again at a £5 per head event at the Sherborne Institute!

This astounding no show from Farron and Cable is proof that (just like with tuition fees, proportional representation, and countless other Lib-Dem so-called policies) their opposition to Brexit doesn't come from any serious political principle at all, it's simply pure opportunism designed to soak up the votes of Remainers who are too gullible to realise that they're being played like idiots by the biggest bunch of morally-flexible political charlatans out there.

So in conclusion Theresa May gets to cling onto power for a little while longer, mainly thanks to her own MPs, many of whom voted against what they knew to be the national interest in order to stave off the collapse of the Tory party.

But more crucially (because Tories putting the interests of the Tory party above the interests of the nation is hardly 'news'), the Lib-Dems have now been totally exposed as a bunch of absolute charlatans whose leader couldn't even be bothered to show up to vote against the Tory Brextremists, and whose former leader was too busy banging on about his aversion to gay sex to participate in such a crucial knife-edge vote.

This ludicrous Lib-Dem performance is all the evidence any sensible person should need to understand that the Liberal Democrats are absolutely incapable of playing the role of "Brexit saviours" to defend us from the ideological lunacy of the hard-right Tory Brextremists who dictate Theresa May's Brexit strategy to her.

Anyone who still actually believes any of the Lib-Dem schtick about being the "anti-Brexit" party after this lamentable display is certifiably gullible.

Why economic suicide is a bad idea

It seems such a ridiculous thing to have to explain, but the outburst of Twitter outrage over the failure of Ian Murray's economic suicide amendment kind of makes it necessary to explain why economic suicide is actually a bad idea.

The likes of ex-Liberal Democrat Leader Tim Farron and the usual suspects from the Labour right bombarded Twitter with howls of protest after the amendment to the Taxation (Cross Border Trade) Bill by the right-wing Labour MP Ian Murray was defeated by 311 votes to 76.

Tim Farron put up a Twitter rant claiming that he'd voted to keep Britain in the Customs Union, but in reality he did no such thing. An amendment to keep Britain in the Customs Union would have specified that Britain should stay in the Customs Union, but what Ian Murray's ludicrous amendment sought to do was to force the UK to continue behaving as if it was in the Customs Union, even if we end up out of it!

Murray's amendment sought to prevent the UK from imposing tariffs or quotas on imported goods from the EU, regardless of whether the hard-right Tories contrive the "no deal" cliff edge Brexit they're craving or not.

However, the World Trade Organisation rules are clear that countries can't offer favourable trade terms to other countries unless they do it through a formal trade agreement, so that means the Murray economic suicide amendment would have forced the UK to drop import tariffs and quotas on all imports from anywhere in the world, whilst leaving the rest of the world free to impose tariffs and quotas on UK exports!

The UK trade deficit is already enormous, so just imagine the impact of eliminating all tariffs and quotas on imports while simultaneously allowing the rest of the world to impose WTO level tariffs on exports from the UK.

Just imagine how scrapping all import tariffs and quotas would render the UK absolutely defenceless when it comes to protecting British manufacturing from unfair trade practices like other nations dumping artificially cheap steel into the UK economy.

So if this amendment had passed and the Tories then forced a "no deal" flounce out of the EU, it would have hard-wired an even more fanatically right-wing and damaging Brexit than the hard-right Tories are pushing for!

Don't get me wrong here. I think the Tory red line that the UK must quit the Customs Union is a terrible idea that has already caused deadlock over the Irish border situation, and will cause a significant amount of economic damage to the UK economy when we leave, but the likes of Ian Murray and Tim Farron got it all wrong by attempting to ensure that the UK is forced to kill its own manufacturing sector stone dead if they don't get their own way.

Yet somehow these people turned the defeat of their economic suicide amendment into furious bile-laden attacks on the majority of the Labour Party for supposedly siding with the Tory hard Brexit fanatics because they lobbed their reckless and economically illiterate amendment in the bin where it belonged.

Ian Murray's amendment was so bad that he's even admitted that he expected it to lose, meaning that it was just another bit of pointless and destructive grandstanding from the Labour-right aimed at damaging their own party from within. And to see the likes of Tim Farron opportunistically piggy-backing anti-Labour diatribes onto it after its failure just proves the point.

I was particularly disappointed to see Caroline Lucas of the Green Party resort to this kind of hyper-partisan rubbish after the amendment was defeated because she's one of my favourite politicians and normally loads better than that.

I was also disappointed to see so many SNP politicians voting in favour of Ian Murray's economic suicide amendment and then engaging in hyper-partisan attacks when it was defeated. The SNP should have considered the implications of what they were voting for before they voted for it, and they should also be perfectly well aware that Ian Murray is a right-wing Labour MP more intent on making trouble for his own party leadership than doing anything to actually help the people of Scotland.

It takes quite a level of idiocy to propose an amendment that would make a Tory "no deal" Brexit even worse by turning the UK into a lame debt-shackled sitting-duck economy that is literally begging to have its core industries ruined by allowing unlimited imports, while the rest of the world can apply tariffs on UK exports. But it takes a whole other level of idiocy to then turn around and spit bile at those who prevented you from making such an economically illiterate blunder, accusing them of collaborating with the Tories.

Even most of the rabid hard-right Brexiteers have enough sense to understand that abolishing all import tariffs and quotas on imports while other economies remain free to impose them on UK exports would be nothing short of unilateral economic surrender, but Tim Farron and his ilk are just too dim-witted to realise that they were attempting to hard-wire a super-hard Brexit that was too extreme even for the hard-right Tory Brexiteers to stomach!

It really does not engender much faith in the parliamentary process that so many MPs voted in favour of an economic suicide amendment, and then cried victim so piteously when it was defeated.

It also severely erodes the standing of the (already hopelessly diminished) mainstream media that they utterly failed to convey the reckless economic illiteracy of Ian Murray's amendment, or it's shocking implications should the Tories achieve the "no deal" Brexit they're so obviously craving.

It's utterly infuriating that so many people (including our elected representatives and the mainstream media figures who are supposedly tasked with holding them to account) are so insistent on framing everything in a over-simplistic binary opposition between pro- and anti- Brexit, when stuff like the Murray economic suicide amendment just doesn't fit.

The politicians who voted in favour of it were too lazy/irresponsible to think about the devastating economic consequences that such an amendment would have in the case of a Tory "no deal" Brexit, meaning that their haphazard knee-jerk opposition to Brexit could have actually hard-wired a more extreme version of Brexit than the foaming-at-the-mouth hard-right Tories are aiming for!

But apparently the reality of the situation is just too boring/complex for most political commentators to bother with, so they just stick with their tactic of hyper-partisan shrieking instead.

Only insane leftists like the former head of MI5 and most of the British public would agree with Jeremy Corbyn

After their spitefully dishonest condemnation of Jeremy Corbyn's carefully considered speech on terrorism, the ideological dogmatism of the Tory party and their cheerleaders in the right-wing press couldn't be clearer.

It's now totally clear that it doesn't matter what Jeremy Corbyn says, they'll attack it, misrepresent it, and smear it rather that ever actually admit that he's actually talking some sense.

Aside from the profound message of solidarity in the face of barbarism, the crux of Jeremy Corbyn's speech was that the "war on terrorism" is failing, and that the UK government needs to adopt a more intelligent approach to the problem of murderous Islamist fanaticism.

Corbyn very clearly stated that understanding the causes of terrorism in no way excuses or reduces the guilt of those who attack us, but lying Tory politicians like Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Ben Wallace deliberately warped and misrepresented what Corbyn said in the hope that the British public are so gullible that they'd just believe the Tory lies, rather than check the primary source for themselves.

Here's the full transcript of Corbyn's speech

Aside from blatantly lying about what he said, others have tried to attack Jeremy Corbyn as if his idea that turning places like Iraq and Libya into lawless power vacuums has increased, rather than decreased the global threat of terrorism as if such an idea is dangerously extreme leftist nonsense.

The problem for this argument is that Corbyn is absolutely right.

Well he's right if you think that the former head of MI5 is the kind of person who knows what they're talking about.

And he's right if you credit the British public with enough intelligence to not idly dismiss their understanding that creating lawless terrorist breeding grounds is likely to increase the threat of terrorism.

The expert

The former head of MI5 Eliza Mannigham-Buller wrote this in her book:

"Whatever the merits of putting an end to Saddam Hussein, the war was also a distraction from the pursuit of al-Qaeda. It increased the terrorist threat by convincing more people that Osama Bin Laden's claim that Islam was under attack was correct. It provided an arena for the jihad for which he had called, so that many of his supporters, including British citizens, travelled to Iraq to attack western forces . . . And our involvement in Iraq spurred some young British Muslims to turn to terror."

That's the exact same argument that right-wingers are abusing Corbyn for making. I wonder why they didn't howl and shriek when the former head of MI5 published this in her book?

The public

Then there's the fact that the majority of people tend to agree with what Jeremy Corbyn said.

A YouGov poll
found that 65% of respondents agreed with Corbyn's argument that "the wars that the UK has supported or fought are in part responsible for terror attacks against the UK" after the results were weighted 53% agreed, while only 24% disagreed.

That's more than twice as many people believe that the UK bombing other countries is in part responsible for terrorism, as those who think that UK wars have no impact on terrorism whatever.

The idea that the UK bombing other countries isn't a factor in terrorism is the unpopular minority view, and the view that it is a factor to be considered is widely-accepted "common sense".

By attacking Corbyn for saying what most people believe, the right-wingers are clearly insulting the intelligence of the majority of the public.

The sickening hypocrites

Aside from the former head of MI5 and public opinion on his side, Corbyn can also find support for his views from people like Boris Johnson, David Cameron and Tim Farron (two of whom savagely attacked him for making the exact same argument they had made previously).

Boris Johnson called Corbyn's comments "monstrous", but in the aftermath of the 7/7 London bombings Boris actually said this:
"The Iraq war did not create the problem of murderous Islamic fundamentalists, though the war has unquestionably sharpened the resentments felt by such people in this country, and given them a new pretext. The Iraq war did not introduce the poison into our bloodstream but, yes, the war did help to potentiate that poison."

Aside from making the exact same argument as he condemned Corbyn for, he also used the incredibly insensitive phrase "told you so", which Jeremy Corbyn would never be crass enough to use in the wake of a terrorist atrocity.

The lamentable Lib-Dem leader Tim Farron was another to publicly slate Corbyn's speech, but just one year ago he stood up in parliament to argue that bombing foreign countries fuels terrorism and is a danger to us all!

The sad hypocritical point-scoring little scunner!

David Cameron was another who made the exact same point as Corbyn, but with no shrieks of outrage, or sickening distortions of what he said from the Tory ranks, or the right-wing propaganda rags.

Conclusion

In attacking and smearing Jeremy Corbyn for saying what the experts agree with, what the majority of the public agree with, and most incredibly what they themselves have agreed with in the past, the Tories (and the lamentable gonk Tim Farron) have made one thing absolutely clear:

The fact they're so utterly desperate to attack and smear Jeremy Corbyn that they'll say literally anything, no matter how hypocritical, incoherent, or downright dishonest, is proof that they hold you, and me, and the rest of the public in total contempt.

They expect us to just mindlessly accept their lies and smears, to not go to the primary source and check out what he actually said for ourselves, and to not look through the stuff they've said in the past in order to expose their appalling hypocrisy.

Why on earth would anyone vote for arrogant charlatans who assume them to be pathetically gullible idiots who are incapable of thinking about anything for themselves?

Theresa May chickens out of general election TV debates

Anyone who has seen any of Theresa May's performances at Prime Ministers' Questions will know that she's an incredibly weak public speaker who relies almost entirely on the tactic of regurgitating pre-written non-answers to questions, ans snide personal attacks.

She's clearly absolutely hopeless when she has to think on her feet, as has been proven by the many times she's been outwitted and outperformed by Jeremy Corbyn. Even his most loyal supporters would struggle to argue Corbyn is a great public speaker who is adept at thinking on his feet, so Theresa May must be truly awful to have let Corbyn repeatedly get the better of her to such an extent that she's petrified of going into open debate with him.

David Cameron famously wimped out of having a Scottish Independence debate with Alex Salmond, but he wasn't cowardly enough to evade the 2015 General Election debates completely. A year ago it would have been difficult to imagine the Tory party being run by an even more self-serving and cowardly weasel than David Cameron, but here we are with a Prime Minister who is demonstrably petrified of debating the likes of Jeremy Corbyn and Tim Farron!

Theresa May knows that she's even more pitifully inept in an unscripted environment than Cameron was, so the only way she thinks she can avoid getting pummelled in the televised General Election debates is by outright refusing to participate.

It's no surprise at all that Theresa May is angling to scrap the televised General Election debates by chickening out.
If the broadcasters decide to abandon the debates because Theresa May refuses to participate, they'd clearly and undeniably be giving her a massive helping hand in avoiding her inability to deal with unscripted situations, so the
only unbiased option the broadcasters now have is to hold the debates regardless of her threats to not participate, featuring an empty podium for the Tory party if she refuses to turn up.

The Delusional Liberal Democrats

What on earth goes on in the minds of (the remaining) Liberal Democrats?

Some of the stuff that has come out in the buildup to the 2013 Lib-Dem conference is indicative of some seriously misguided and delusional thinking.

On the first weekend of September the Lib-Dem MP and former coalition minister Sarah Teather announced her decision to quit the Liberal Democrats at the 2015 election because of their abandonment of their liberal values. Whilst I'm inclined to give her a bit of credit for showing some principles, her stance raises a number of questions.

If she is truly opposed to the illiberal tendencies of the coalition government, why doesn't she resign immediately, rather than hanging on as a Lib-Dem MP until 2015? If she doesn't want to quit parliament before her time is up, why doesn't she quit the Liberal Democrat party, cross the floor and serve out her time as an independent, or join a genuinely left-liberal party like the Green Party (if they would even have her after her decision to oppose equal rights for gay people)?

Another question is why now? I mean, it was absolutely obvious that the Lib-Dems had abandoned any pretence at being a liberal party when they backed the fascistic Justice and Security "secret courts" Bill earlier this year. Sarah knew all about this betrayal of the liberal values that the Lib-Dems misleadingly continue to advertise in their name. In fact, she was one of the few Lib-Dem MPs with the requisite liberal values to vote against her party backing of this Kafkaesque legislation back in March 2013. Why has she waited until the week before the Lib-Dem conference to announce her resignation, when March 2013 was clearly a better moment.

The anti-Teather bile emanating from the Lib Dem ranks suggests that Teather's belated resignation has really struck a nerve. It's all very well people like me questioning her motives for quitting in this particular week, but the Lib-Dems that have chosen to stay loyal to a leadership hellbent on betraying their proclaimed liberal values should surely have more important things to do than slinging mud at Sarah Teather. They should perhaps be asking themselves why they continue to support a party leadership that has open contempt for the proclaimed core values of the party, and in just a few short years has driven away vast swathes of Lib-Dem support that took decades of extremely hard work to build up.

Not content with the embarrassing spectacle of a public spat between Sarah Teather and the Coalition loyalists, Nick Clegg decided to to give everyone something else to ridicule with press briefings that the Lib-Dems were about to withdraw support for Secret Courts just six months after his party voted them into existence!

Just as a little reminder of the grotesquely illiberal stuff Clegg and co helped the Tories to enact: If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself charged with a crime by a secret court, you will be excluded from the hearings where your fate is decided; you will not be allowed to know what the case against you is; you will not be allowed to enter the courtroom; you will not be allowed to know or challenge the details of the case; and you will not be allowed representation from your own lawyer (who will also be barred from knowing what the case against you is), but will instead be represented (in your absence) by a state appointed "special advocate". What is more, thanks to Lib-Dem votes shooting down some last minute Labour amendments, the court will not even have to demonstrate that it is in the public interest to hold your case in secret.

Remember, the only reason that these Kafkaesque secret courts found their way onto the statute books was by Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats repeatedly voting in favour of them, their helping the Tories to carefully unpick all of the House of Lords amendments and their deliberate voting down of opposition amendments designed to mitigate some of the most totalitarian elements.

The decision to begin campaigning against legislation that you yourself voted into law just six months previously has to be one of the most ridiculous political U-turns in history.

Not content with the embarrassment of the Sarah Teather resignation and the shambolic secret courts debacle, the Lib-Dem President Tim Farron decided to elicit more public ridicule with his delusional assertion that the Liberal Democrats should "stay on the centre-left" of British politics. The only conclusion that can be drawn from this is that Farron is either politically illiterate, or he's been fast asleep for the last three years.

The Liberal-Democrats are not a centre-left party. They are quite clearly occupiers of the same tiny patch of right-wing authoritarianism as the other two establishment parties. They are a corporate backed, orthodox neoliberal, pro-privatisation, anti-welfare and extremely illiberal party. Just because they occupy ground slightly to the left of the Tories and UKIP doesn't make them left-wing or liberal, in the same way that just because a carving knife isn't as fearsome as a Samurai sword, doesn't mean that it's safe to be stabbed in the neck with one.

Are any of these things to be expected from a centre-left party?
Farron must be absolutely delusional if he thinks that the millions of betrayed Lib-Dem voters are going to flood back before the 2015 election simply because they draw up a list of left-liberal manifesto "pledges" to be abandoned at will in the unlikely circumstance that they find themselves in power again. Their appalling track record of betraying their liberal minded supporters and cravenly supporting a Tory government even more fanatically right-wing and totalitarian than the Thatcher regime will surely be albatross around Lib-Dem necks for generations to come.
