If you combine all the anti-Corbyn smears together, they actually add up to Frank Field!

One of the most extraordinary things about Labour right-wingers is their willingness to demonstrate their own mendacity. And there's no finer example of this than their reaction to Frank Field's resignation of the Labour whip after his local Labour party recently voted "no confidence" in him continuing as their MP.

To see Labour right-wingers suddenly lauding Frank Field as some kind of political saint because he's attacked Jeremy Corbyn just goes to prove how utterly devoid of principles this atrocious mob really are.

Recap

1. Labour right-wingers continually smear and attack Jeremy Corbyn for supposedly not doing enough to oppose Tory Brexit (despite the fact Labour have opposed the Tories in almost every actual Brexit vote).
2. Jeremy Corbyn once again opposes Tory Brexit by voting to take the ludicrous Tory threat of a "no deal" economic meltdown off the table, but he's betrayed by Frank Field who votes with the Tories to save Theresa May's skin.

3. Frank Field resigns the Labour whip after his local Labour Party vote "no confidence"  in him because of his support for hard-right Tory Brextremism.
4. Frank Field jumps before he's pushed by resigning the Labour whip, and Labour Right wingers suddenly begin lauding him as a political saint and using his departure as a stick to attack Jeremy Corbyn with!
Only the most blindly partisan of political fools could have failed to notice the way the Labour right-wingers switched seamlessly from using accusations of Brextremism to attack Jeremy Corbyn, to actually siding with a Brextremist to attack Jeremy Corbyn.

Frank Field is the living embodiment of their anti-Corbyn smears

Think back through the anti-Corbyn smears that the Labour right-wingers have used in their desperate efforts to derail the democratic socialist movement he leads and re-install an adherent of the centre-right neoliberal orthodoxy as Labour leader.

  • They try to claim that Corbyn is some kind of horrible Enoch Powell figure ... but their new hero Frank Field publicly lauded Enoch Powell, and the regularity of his anti-immigrant rhetoric led to the Church of England Bishop Peter Selby labelling him "the new Enoch Powell".
So if you stitch all the Labour right-wingers' hyperbolic anti-Corbyn smears together (the anti-Semitic, Brexity, Tory-enabling, xenophobic "new Enoch Powell") into some kind of freakish Frankenstein monster of a Labour politician, you actually end up with Frank Field!

But somehow they Labour right-wingers are all busy conferring political sainthood upon him because he publicly attacked Jeremy Corbyn!

The mendacity, hypocrisy, and downright dishonesty of painting Jeremy Corbyn as this Brexity, xenophobic Powellesque monster, but then actually lauding the actual Brexity, xenophobic, Powellesque monster of the Labour movement as a political saint because he criticises Corbyn. It's absolutely extraordinary.

Perhaps somebody should tell these people about how "the enemy of my enemy is not automatically my friend"? Or maybe we should just allow these people to wallow in their own hypocrisy?

We know where Jeremy Corbyn was last night (opposing the Tory Brextremists), but where was Tim Farron?

Last night Theresa May survived two incredibly close votes on Brexit legislation after whipping her MPs to support hard-right Brextremist amendments to the customs bill that have clearly been designed to make her Brexit White Paper unworkable.

There were 14 and 11 Tory rebels who voted against Theresa May and her Brextremist puppet masters in the two votes, but the vast majority of Tories (and their bigoted sectarian DUP backers) actually voted in favour of the Brextremist amendments.

Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party voted against Theresa May and the Brextremists, but they were let down by four of the usual suspects who actually voted alongside Jacob Rees-Mogg and his ilk, despite knowing that a defeat at this stage could have triggered the final collapse of this shockingly weak and incompetent Tory government.

The four Brextremist collaborators were Kelvin Hopkins, Graham Stringer, Frank Field, and Kate Hoey.

Nobody should be surprised that these four stepped in to save Theresa May's bacon. They've consistently sided with Theresa May and the hard-right Brextremists when the Labour leadership and the other opposition parties have voted to oppose them.

A much more shocking revelation is that the current Lib-Dem leader Vince Cable, and the former Lib-Dem leader Tim Farron didn't even bother to turn up to vote in the debate.

This is utterly extraordinary stuff from the most high profile politicians in a party that has relentlessly positioned itself as the "Stop Brexit" party since 2016.

Less than a month ago these two charlatans were smugly chanting "where's Jeremy Corbyn" at the pro-EU People's Vote protest event in London. But when it came to the crunch, and enough Tory rebels finally decided to stand up against the hard-right Brextremists who have usurped their party, Jeremy Corbyn showed up to vote against them, while these two posturing frauds were nowhere to be seen.

In fact, the extraordinary reason Tim Farron decided to not bother showing up to such a crucial parliamentary Brexit battle was that he was too busy banging on about how much he hates gay sex again at a £5 per head event at the Sherborne Institute!

This astounding no show from Farron and Cable is proof that (just like with tuition fees, proportional representation, and countless other Lib-Dem so-called policies) their opposition to Brexit doesn't come from any serious political principle at all, it's simply pure opportunism designed to soak up the votes of Remainers who are too gullible to realise that they're being played like idiots by the biggest bunch of morally-flexible political charlatans out there.

So in conclusion Theresa May gets to cling onto power for a little while longer, mainly thanks to her own MPs, many of whom voted against what they knew to be the national interest in order to stave off the collapse of the Tory party.

But more crucially (because Tories putting the interests of the Tory party above the interests of the nation is hardly 'news'), the Lib-Dems have now been totally exposed as a bunch of absolute charlatans whose leader couldn't even be bothered to show up to vote against the Tory Brextremists, and whose former leader was too busy banging on about his aversion to gay sex to participate in such a crucial knife-edge vote.

This ludicrous Lib-Dem performance is all the evidence any sensible person should need to understand that the Liberal Democrats are absolutely incapable of playing the role of "Brexit saviours" to defend us from the ideological lunacy of the hard-right Tory Brextremists who dictate Theresa May's Brexit strategy to her.

Anyone who still actually believes any of the Lib-Dem schtick about being the "anti-Brexit" party after this lamentable display is certifiably gullible.

The 5 unsung Labour heroes of the Amendment 7 vote

Much credit has been given to the 11 Tory MPs who joined forces with the opposition parties to defeat Theresa May's authoritarian scheming by bravely voting in favour of Amendment 7 to the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill, but there are five unsung heroes on the Labour benches too.

Of course the Tory "Mutineers" led by former Attorney General Dominic Grieve deserve credit for having put country above party for once.

They'll obviously always be tainted by their numerous votes in favour of imposing ruinous Tory austerity dogma that has done so much damage to the British economy, public services, workers' wages, and productivity, as well as severely retarding the nation's future economic potential through the lowest levels of infrastructure investment in the developed world. However they definitely deserve credit for doing something right for a change, and standing up for the principle of parliamentary sovereignty, especially given the torrent of abuse they knew they'd suffer at the hands of the Daily Mail and the extreme-right for daring to do the right thing.

The five unsung heroes on the Labour benches are Dennis Skinner, Graeme Morris, Ronnie Campbell, John Mann and Roger Godsiff.

As you may already know, these are all pro-Brexit Labour MPs, but they all made the important distinction between backing Theresa May's objective of turning Brexit into an anti-democratic power grab, and conducting Brexit in a democratic manner.

Their ability to make this distinction between an authoritarian Tory Brexit and a Brexit conducted in a democratic manner led them to vote alongside the majority of their Labour colleagues, the SNP, Plaid Cymru, the Lib-Dems and Caroline Lucas of the Green Party to curtail Theresa May's anti-democratic authoritarian tendencies.

The vote was won 309-305 meaning that without the votes of these five pro-Brexit MPs the amendment to ensure a proper democratic vote on the final Brexit deal would have been defeated, which would have allowed Theresa May and a tiny cabal of hard-right Tories to conduct the Brexit negotiations purely for their own self-interest, with nobody to hold them to account.

These guys deserve a lot of credit for seeing beyond the outrageously polarised Brexiteer vs Remainer political tribalism and voting for what is actually right, rather than voting tribalistically with their fellow Brexiteers on the Tory benches.

In fact two of the pro-Brexit Labour MPs (Kate Hoey and Frank Field) actually voted with the Tories and the DUP to back Theresa May's authoritarian and anti-democratic interpretation of the Brexit mandate, but thankfully they were outnumbered by the five pro-Brexit Labour MPs with enough sense and respect for democracy to support Amendment 7.

The sad thing is that if the Tory party wasn't so full of spineless Tory MPs who just did as they were told by the whips and traipsed through the lobby to support Theresa May's anti-democratic interpretation of the Brexit mandate, this vote wouldn't have even been even remotely close.

The reality of the situation is that nobody who respects democracy or the principle of parliamentary sovereignty can possibly justify voting against an amendment to ensure that whatever Brexit outcome Theresa May and David Davis cobble together is subject to a democratic vote.

So you may well disagree with the pro-Brexit stance of these five Labour MPs, but you've got to admit that at least they're principled about it. They want Britain to leave the EU, but unlike their Brexiter bretheren in the Tory party these five want it done in an open and democratically accountable manner.

The final Brexit deal will be subject to a vote in the European Parliament, and then ratification by the 27 national parliaments of the remaining EU states. It would have been beyond ridiculous if Britain was the only country involved in the Brexit negotiations to not have a democratic parliamentary vote on the final deal, but that's the situation Theresa May, the majority of the Tory party and the DUP bigots voted for.

As absurd as it is that the vote was as close as 309-305 in favour of defending democracy, it's clear that without the contributions of these pro-democracy Brexiter Labour MPs (and the "mutineer" Tory MPs who got the bulk of the publicity) Amendment 7 would have failed, and the wannabe-tyrant Theresa May would undoubtedly have taken its failure as a mandate to avoid having any kind of democratic vote on the final terms of the Brexit agreement whatever.

So if you're opposed to a secretive and anti-democratic Tory Brexit concocted by a tiny cabal of hard-right Tory politicians, take a moment to remember that five Labour Brexiteers played a massive role in preventing that horrifying scenario from coming true.
