Over 11 years to fail to achieve what they said they would do in 5

In 2010 the Tories promised that their austerity agenda would completely eliminate the budget deficit by 2015.

In 2014-2015 they were nowhere near eliminating the budget deficit so they redefined their abject failure as a success by endlessly repeating "we've cut the deficit by a third". The public lapped that absurd nonsense up and reelected them.

In 2016 the Tories have admitted that they still won't have eliminated the budget deficit by 2021.

So that's 11 years to fail to achieve what they promised to do in 5, and more new debt created than every single Labour government in history combined, yet somehow, thanks to all of the pro-Tory right-wing propaganda in the mainstream media, the Tories still have the widespread reputation as "the party of economic competence"!

It's a testament to the power of the mainstream media propaganda machine that millions of people still think of the Tories as trustworthy on economic issues when they have so abjectly failed to achieve what they said they would.
